Bangalore to Coorg: A Weekend Escape to the Hills

250 km · 5 hours · Coffee, Clouds & Curvy Roads
Coorg hills
Misty hills of Coorg, Karnataka
There's something about leaving Bangalore before sunrise, watching the city thin out into farmland, and then climbing into coffee country that never gets old. This is everything I packed, planned, and discovered on my last drive to Coorg — the route, the stops, and the stays worth your time.

The Route: NH275 via Mysuru

The classic route runs Bangalore → Mysuru → Kushalnagar → Madikeri, mostly smooth highway until you hit the ghat roads near Kushalnagar. Leave by 5–6 AM to skip Bangalore's outbound traffic and catch breakfast in Mysuru or Srirangapatna.
Roadside stop

Pit Stop: Mad about Coffee, Kushalnagar

A small, unpretentious cafe that's saved many road-weary travelers with strong filter coffee and akki roti. Worth the ten-minute detour.

"Coorg doesn't announce itself — it just slowly wraps you in coffee blossoms and fog until Bangalore feels like a different lifetime."

Weekend Itinerary

Day 1 Drive in, check into a homestay, evening walk at Abbey Falls.
Day 2 Raja's Seat sunrise, Dubare Elephant Camp, coffee estate tour.
Day 3 Talakaveri, breakfast in Madikeri, drive back to Bangalore.
